Who Needs this Training?

According to OSHA 29 CFR 1926.503(a)(1) every employee exposed to fall hazards needs training to recognize the hazards of falling, and the processes that must be followed to minimize risk of injury. Any workers “working at height” within the following categories are required by OSHA to receive training:

• General Industry (OSHA 1910) = four (4) feet
• Construction (OSHA 1926) = six (6) feet
• Maritime (OSHA 1915) = five (5) feet

Dangers of Remaining Uncertified

Each year workers in all industries die from falls.  The majority are preventable by using fall protection and following safe work practices.

According to the latest Bureau of Labor Statistics, during 2018 there were 5,250 occupational fatalities.  Of all occupational fatalities, 791 deaths were caused by falls.  Of those occupational deaths, 338 were in the construction industry.  

More than 15% of all occupational fatalities are from falls, which is the leading cause of worker deaths in the construction industry other than highway collisions.

Course Duration
A minimum of 45 minutes is required to complete this course.

Recertification
When an employer has reason to believe that an affected worker does not recognize existing fall hazards at some point after the initial training, the employer is required to provide retraining for that worker, in accordance with 29 CFR 1926.503(c). For example, workers must be retrained when:

• Changes in the workplace render previous training obsolete. 
• Fall protection equipment or systems have changed. 
• Inadequacies in workers’ knowledge or use of fall protection systems or equipment indicate that they have not adequately understood or retained previous training.

Certificate of Completion
A completion certificate is available for printing immediately upon successfully finishing the course.
